  • Q1: WHAT IS TELEPRESENCE?
    • Telepresence is a set of technologies such as high definition audio, video and other interactive elements that allow people to feel or appear as if they were present in a location which they are not physically in.

  • Q2: WHAT IS MULTIMEDIA VIDEO CONFERENCING SYSTEM?
    • Videoconferencing provides a means for efficient communication, collaboration and decision-making even when people cannot be physically present in the same location. It has many of the same advantages as a face-to-face meeting including being able to see each other’s facial expressions and body language. It also allows people to share files and data, so that it is easy to hold presentations, review documents and make fast decisions.

  • Q3: HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN TELEPRESENCE AND VIDEO CONFERENCE?
    • Telepresence is real time, full-high-definition, high-quality sound and vision, while video conferencing runs on lower definition. The most importantly, telepresence gives the feeling of being remotely while you are locally resides.

  • Q4: WHAT IS MULTIPOINT-TO-MULTIPOINT VIDEO CONFERENCE SYSTEM?
    • This is where three or more parties located at different sites participate in a conference where each party has an equal chance to be heard and seen by everybody else. These different sites can either be within the same local network, or spread over a wide geographical area across different private networks.

  • Q5: ANY BANDWIDTH REQUIREMENT FOR TELEPRESENCE?
    • Yes, and it depends on number of sites that join into a conference. For point-to-point, recommended minimum bandwidth requirement is 512Kbps for each participant, while for multiparty, at least 2Mbps of bandwidth is recommended.

  • Q6: HOW DO WE START A CONFERENCE?
    • NLTVC HD Client: Login to Crystalview server and click “Call” for point-to-point conference or “Multiparty” for multipoint conference. A directory will be displayed, and invite participant(s) for the conference.
      NLTVC H.323: Insert IP address of the remote side, and click call button.
      NLTVC Skype: Insert username and password to sign in to Skype, and call the intended people in the contact list.

  • Q7: WHAT DO I NEED TO DO IF I FAILED TO LOG IN TO THE SERVER?
    • i) Check if server name is correct. Click “Option” -> Server Address.

      i) Check if you are connected to network. Exit NLTVC HD Client, Click system configuration (see picture 2) and see the Internet status in Summary Info. If “No Internet”, please click on Network tab (See picture 3) and check the network configuration. Please determine your network status from network administrator.

  • Q8: WHAT IF I AM UNABLE TO GET VIDEO AT MY END?
    • Make sure your camera is plugged in to the machine.

      To diagnose, click System Configuration (see picture 2) -> select tab “Audio & Video” (see picture 4) -> click “Test Camera”, you should be able to see camera display (see picture 5).

  • Q9: WHAT IF I AM UNABLE TO GET REMOTE VIDEO?
    • i) Please check with the network administrator if the router of your network is blocking some ports. The following ports must be allowed: UDP (in/out): 13260, 13261, 13262, and 13263.
      ii) If all ports are allowed and the problem is unsolved, please end the conference and select “OPTION” (see picture 6) -> Client Type (see picture 7), and select the option opposite of your selection. E.g If the original selected client type is NATed, please select Enterprise instead. Create conference again and problem should be solved.

  • Q10: WHEN SHOULD I USE NATED OR ENTERPRISE FOR CLIENT TYPE?
    • If you are having local network, you should choose NATed always, or else Enterprise should be chosen. Please check with network administrator regarding your network status.

  • Q11: WHAT IS BYPASS INTERNET OPTION?
    • Choose this option if you want to have conference internally or internet access is not available in your corporate.

  • Q12: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CALL AND MULTIPARTY ?
    • Choose “CALL” for point-to-point conference; choose “MULTIPARTY” for multipoint conference.

  • Q13: HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM CONNECTED TO NETWORK?
    • Click system configuration (see picture 2), check the Internet status under Summary Info, status “Connected to Internet” implies you are having good network. (see picture 8)

  • Q14: WHAT IS PROXY SERVER SETTING?
    • Use this option if your network require alternative route to internet.

  • Q15: WHAT IS H.323? WHO CAN I CALL BY USING H.323?
    • H.323 is the ITU telecommunication standard that defines the protocols to provide audio-video communication sessions. NLTVC H.323 is interoperability with IP-based video conferencing system such is Polycom, Tandberg, LifeSize and Cisco.

  • Q16: CAN I RUN H.323, NLTVC CLIENT AND SKYPE AT THE SAME TIME?
    • Not available at the moment.

  • Q17: CAN I USE SKYPE FOR MULTIPOINT CONFERENCE?
    • Upgrade to premium Skype account is necessary. Extra credit is needed. Without upgrading to premium Skype, only multipoint voice is available.

  • Q18: CAN I USE SKYPE FOR VOICE CALL? E.G TELEPHONE NETWORK (PSTN).
    • Yes. Extra credit will be charged.

  • Q19: CAN I USE WIRELESS NETWORK INSTEAD OF WIRED?
    • No. Wireless network provide low uplink, video quality on remote side will be affected.

  • Q20: ANY FIREWALL POLICY REQUIRED ON ROUTERS?
    • Yes. The following ports must be enabled:
      TCP (in/out): 13250, 13251, 13252, 13258
      UDP (in/out): 13260, 13261, 13262, 13263, 13264, 13265
